Mekasa Under the able tutelage of his father and teacher Maheshwara a great astronomer, young Bhaskara mastered mathematics, astronomy, Panini Sanskrit grammar, and poetry. The Lilavati focuses on arithmetic and according to a story that was written in a Persian translation of the book, the book was written for his daughter, who was named Lilavati. Lilafati Predictions for December December 1, Bhaskara wrote a number of books but the work that has had the most influence in the mathematics field is the Siddhanta Siromani Crown of Treatises. This influence can be seen in the writings of various Islamic mathematicians. Lilavatihas bhsakara chapters and covers a number of topics. He is not only a famous Mathematician, but also an excellent Astronomer, and a Scientist A. His father name was Mahesvara, a famous astrologer, who taught him Mathematics. This happened frequently in Indian society with generations of a family being excellent mathematicians and often acting as teachers to other family members. Bhaskara was the leading mathematician of 12th century, who wrote the first work with full and systematic use of the decimal number system.

Bhaskara - II became head of the astronomical observatory at Ujjain, which was the leading mathematical centre of ancient India of that time. In many ways Bhaskracharya represented the peak of mathematical knowledge in the 12th century.

He reached an understanding of the number systems and solving equations which was not achieved in Europe for several centuries. As an astronomer Bhaskara wrote about planetary positions and eclipses. Bhaskara - II used letter to represent unknown quantities, much as in modern algebra, and solved indeterminate equation of 1st and 2nd degrees.

He wrote siddhanta Shiromani at the age of 36 in A. He formulated simple ways of calculations form Arithmetic to Astronomy in this book. Lilavati contains an excellent poetic language. Lilavati has been translated in various languages throughout the world.

The solution to this equation was traditionally attributed to William Brouncker in , though his method was more difficult than the chakravala method. This very equation was posed as a problem in by the French mathematician Pierre de Fermat , but its solution was unknown in Europe until the time of Euler in the 18th century. Traces of the general mean value theorem are also found in his works. Calculated the derivatives of trigonometric functions and formulae. See Calculus section below. In Siddhanta Shiromani, Bhaskara developed spherical trigonometry along with a number of other trigonometric results. See Trigonometry section below.
